    Cai Xi is an artist and director of CX Silver Gallery, as well as the chef behind Cai’s Dim Sum Catering. Born and trained in China and MFA from Vermont College of Fine Art. She has exhibited extensively both locally and nationally, and her work caixiart.com is held in private and public collections, including UW–Madison and the public radio station in Binghamton, NY. Cai is also a Taiji instructor, offers ongoing Taiji Fridays at the Brattleboro Museum. Beyond her studio practice, she actively shares Chinese art and culture with schools and local communities. A former Chinese language teacher at The Putney School who led multiple years of Study Abroad student group to China. Over time, her creative practice has expanded to include cooking as an art. Her passion is to enrich life through the exploration of arts and culture — inviting communities to engage through seeing, touching and tasting.

  • Yali Su is an artist and an associate professor at the School of Fine Arts at Chongqing University of Education, she graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2000. Her work focuses on art, design, and local cultural practice, and she has long been engaged in teaching and creative research in Chongqing.

  • Le Xi‍ ‍lexiart.org/le-xi-contemporary-artist is a conceptual artist based between China and the United States. He received his MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work incorporates video, everyday media, and long-term observation of contemporary life and local culture in China. Alongside his artistic practice, he has also been involved in cross-cultural exchange and educational projects between China and the United States.

  • Tour Descriptions

    Travel in a small, intimate group led by two native artists who will introduce you to China’s cultural and historical treasures, regional cuisine, and everyday local life. Explore iconic landmarks including the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City in Beijing, and the Terracotta Army in Xi’an. Stay in a more than 400-year-old Ming Dynasty merchant’s mansion located in a 2,000-year-old ancient city along the Jialing River. Enjoy a two-day excursion of the Three Gorges on Yangtze River. Experience traditional Chinese herbal medicine and Chinese massage, practice Taiji with Cai in the neighborhood park where she grew up in Chongqing City.

  • What to Expect
    This moderately paced tour includes a reasonable amount of walking or light hiking and requires an average level of physical fitness

    Tour activities will include:

    • Spending much of the day on foot while exploring iconic cities and cultural sites (with flexibility as needed)

    • A 2–3 hour hike along the Great Wall of China (with flexibility as needed)

  • Getting there: Arrive in China airport (TBD). If necessary group transportation to and from the airport can be arranged with additional fee.
